Learning The Facts About Sexual Harassment

By Franklin Skribbit

Unfortunately, there have been incidences of workplace violence in the past. Someone in a work area becomes angry or is otherwise compelled to become violent, and the results are extremely unpleasant.

Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 specifically outlines how sexual harassment is against the law. The law protects applies to employers with 15 or more employees, which includes governments at the local and state levels.

But the truth is that all employees can find a happy middle ground where they can be both beneficial to their company while not having to play the game of sucking up to the boss in order to get promoted.

Any sexual action is considered sexual harassment in the workplace when it interferes with an individual's ability to work peacefully and normally. It is also sexual harassment when a person finds that they are working in an offensive or hostile environment.

It is important to keep in mind that people do not always reflect on the outside what is going on in their brains on the inside. This is why, if you are working in a high-risk environment, it is important to be watchful, careful, and cautious while you are on the job.

Still, however, a person does not need to be the class pet to get in good with upper management. Simply becoming a better employee will handle that.

An additional risk factor is if a person works in an environment where they interact with hostile or volatile people. This could include police officers, social workers, or people in the healthcare field.

It is important to remember that a person can decide for themselves how their attitude will shape their everyday lives (or in other words, it is your life and it is your work, so take some pride in both and let all other factors fall to the wayside)

This could include people sitting around the harasser or victim when the sexual harassment is occurring. If any bystanders feel uncomfortable and feel that they are in a hostile environment, they are victims of sexual harassment as well.

Online compliance training, additional course work, or even additional degrees can all paly an effective role in improving the quality of employee a person is.

When the victim realizes he or she is being sexually harassed, they should try to contact the harasser and tell them that the contact is unwanted and needs to stop. They should do this in a public area where there are a lot of people.

You should require that all guests and visitors check in before visiting your workplace. This will help you decrease the amount of people in your workplace who are unauthorized to be there.

By increasing focus, training, and by understanding that one's attitude at work will make all the difference, an employee can become an asset to their company and achieve the success they desire.
